reasonable, as opposed to some of the more nonsensical non-starters I've seen suggested. Someone else posted, maybe on the Corner, that VA now requires background checks on private sales (I didn't realize that, nor have I confirmed), in addition to having put in place a Red Flag law. Again, something that is very reasonable and should be such a simple, cheap and efficient thing to add, yet all too often we see absurd suggestions like forcing someone to become a firearms dealer to sell Grandpappy's shotgun they inherited.

Of course, all of this is moot and even dangerous, if you don't have prosecutors and judges willing to prosecute and punish the violators in a serious manner. Which is when the same folks screaming for more gun laws typically shift to whining about incarceration rates, our "prison industrial complex", disproportionate results to population (but not to crimes charged), etc. Which only makes it hard to take them seriously when they propose such new laws.
