They hit us in our “safe spaces”, like schools, movie theaters, houses of worship, stores and malls - places where we don’t expect to be taking our lives in our hands when we or our kids go there. Sure, odds are very slim any single school will be impacted, but all of them seem to be leaning towards becoming armed camps because it happens here more than anyplace on earth. Which is not the best environment for learning. Probably is for childhood anxiety disorders though.

Same dynamic holds true of trips to a Walmart. Just a little more stressful than it used to be for many folks.

So, I think the damage to society is far greater than that simple numerical analysis. And I think the same solutions apply to all of our gun violence anyway. We lead the developed world in gun violence, not just mass shootings. And we lead the world in guns per capita. I’m not aware of anything else rivaling that as the prime suspect for the problem.
