Deliberately dense, but “mental health” means any number of things — from anxiety to ADHD to phobias to depression to ODC to people running for Senate who suffer from MPD, to actual psychosis. Mental health issues exist worldwide (and I’m going to guess in a lot of places diagnoses and treatment options are well behind what we have here, despite our own gaps), and in many places rates of depression, suicide, etc. are significantly higher.

Yet somehow we have nearly all the developed world’s mass shootings.

Maybe saying “mental health” as some kind of excuse to ignore the actual problem — easy availability of guns (including rifles capable of mowing down dozens of people in a few seconds) for anyone who wants one and doesn’t have a felony conviction on his record — is a lazy, counterproductive smoke screen?
