Spreading paranoia about muslims and Mexicans is certainly dark and far
from positive. That doesn't mean it's entirely illegitimate or anyone what connects with the rhetoric on those two points is a racist prick. I think anyone reasonable -- this liberal included -- has concerns over radical Islam -- the question to me is do we assume people may be terrorists or turn away refugees because we're scared of them or just do a better job vetting? For immigration, it's more about what to do with people who already live here. I don't think anyone wants a fully open border ... other than, ironic as it may be, likely Republican voting business owners who hire them on the cheap.
That's my point -- it just resonated with some more than others (and in some cases, the real racists thought saying Mexicans are rapists and murderers and Muslims should be presumed terrorists unless they can prove otherwise was the greatest thing they've ever heard).
