While I get your point, and it certainly applies to anyone
who has developed the condition before adulthood, or who is born with it (in which cases it is certainly more medical coverage than insurance), in 2009 millions of people had LOST insurance because of the recession or because of being cancelled by insurance companies, and could NOT get affordable replacement insurance, if at all. IMO the ACA corrected a whole in the insurance structure for those people, and by covering it, allowed occupational mobility, and coverage for small business owners or the self employed.
Or to put it another way, if we had universal health care coverage, this would be a non issue
