Snark aside, there is a difference between giving a credit


to someone buying a Nissan Leaf for $30K who without the tax credit might otherwise buy a Nissan Sentra for $18K, and giving a credit to a multi-millionaire buying a six figure Tesla Model S or Model X who would probably still buy it without the credit.

The argument would be that we are subsidizing the technology to drive adoption, not subsidizing the buyer, but the optics of subsidizing 3rd and 4th cars for millionaires is different than subsidizing a Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt
