Statue removed in Gainesville FL

This one is interesting. Like the monument in Orlando, this one commemorates the 'generic' Confederate soldier. Again, I was a lot less offended than many by these Especially those remembering the soldier v Confederate leaders. But the silence from the "pride not prejudice" crowd and the UDAC (and similar organizations) over the last few days has been deafening- they are the ones that should be most offended by this recent affront on their "heritage" by these right wing whack jobs. At this point, I'm fine just getting rid of them quickly if the only people that *really* seem to care about their preservation is the alt right. Fuck those guys (many of whom seem to be midwesterners anyhow).
It will be interesting to see how this plays out in places like Richmond. I also worry about the slippery slope, where people want to get rid of anything and everything pertaining to the earlier years of this nation. Where will we, as a society, draw the line? Its hard to erase history, and its easy to throw the baby out with the bathwater I also think an emboldened set of 'deplorables' will find something else to rally around whether we have the statues or not.
