Nice try
The vast majority of people who fought for the South were poor men and boys who did not own slaves and believed in a cause to combat a tyrannical government and a. Protect their home state and land, and b. To fight against a government that had become more and more centralized over the past 30-40 years, to the point at where they believed it to be tyrannical. Shermans march to the sea completely validates A. If you read more into Lincoln's methods such as suspending habeas corpus and some of his statements regarding african American life before the war, you may come to that conclusion (and this is someone who thinks he ultimately did the right thing by preserving the union). Many smarter posters than I have explained on this board why this is so, and I would suggest attempting to read their posts. [Post edited by HoosGuy at 08/15/2017 08:48AM]
