I suspect that is an unsupportable statement.

Of course because they are undocumented, we'd both have trouble coming up with reliable stats. But I do hypothesize that one day in the not too distant future, maybe 10 or 15 years, maybe sooner, the developed world's views on immigration will do a complete 180. As developed nations populations continue to decline, to the point where some countries like Japan and Italy are approaching crisis levels, they will begin competing to draw immigrants. The US has a demographic problem which is straining our entitlement programs, and immigration may actually be the solution to that as our population continues to age. China's aging demographic problem makes ours look like a walk in the park.

So in the future I suspect immigration will become a necessity for keeping most nations' economies on a sustainable path - the opposite of a drain on resources. As for today, you are just making a statement that is completely unsupportable, and that farmers all over the country would dispute, and tell you that if you succeed, prepare for much higher produce prices.

But I have no opposition to the kind of compromise that started taking shape in that extraordinary televised bargaining session yesterday. I support improving border security for a number of reasons, and achieving it with a reasonable compromise that leaves hate and ignorance out of it.

The "net drain on resources" may not be hateful, but it is also not supportable.
