Chicago City Council district


Obviously it's gerrymandered and very stupid, but let's also not pretend that it's a US Congressional district drawn by Democrats to keep Republicans from being electedor pretend that Chicago city politics are representative of politics in the rest of the country.

It seems that the overall City Council map was drawn in 2012 to "satisfy competing white, African-American and Latino interests" (article linked below) and to help incumbents stay in power (another article I read).

As someone who lives on one of the edges of this district, I pretty much just have to laugh because I don't see how these boundaries would impact what Alderman someone would vote for (in terms of drivers - demographic or otherwise - that would change how people in the area would want themselves to be represented on City Council). I almost wonder if it's just what was left over after other power grabs were chosen(?). Then again, I don't really pay attention to local politics, so who knows.
