I've been over this several times

I have considerably higher hopes for the GOP than I do for the Democrats. Based on, quite frankly, the same sort of generally Libertarian principles that I believe you like to see in them as well. My views on social policy are basically "live and let live" and typically stop short of paying for you to live.

an aside: Of late I've got a great deal of internal turmoil on that last part.Given advances in technology I don't see a long run where individual productivity is going to even exist in a real sense. Should that prove true it will be the death knell for Rightward politico-economic thought.

But we live in the here and now. It used to be my disappointment with the GOP was based on their commitment to social regression, and I could find plenty of GOP politicians who at least appeared to try to keep their business out of that muck.

Trump's GOP doubles down on the social regression, and throws in an ugly portion of populist "economic theory" (read: protectionism) and nationalistic fervor, all the while hewing closely to making sure the plutocrats still get their cut.

It's really the worst of all worlds.
