The phrase "fake news" should be buried. It has become a propaganda tool
You can state every one of those objections to media coverage quite clearly without that phrase. The phrase itself is being used to erode our ability to generally agree on a concept of "truth". I know I'm quoting a polarizing figure, Comey, when he talks about Trump being untethered to the truth. I happen to agree with him, but the bigger point is that he uses that phrase to make his devoted followers equally untethered to the truth. And now you hear Putin use it; Netanyahu uses it; Duterte; the list goes on.
The whole phenomenon goes well beyond disputing facts or opinions. It goes to demonizing opposing points of view and anything that supports them. For those of us opposing Trumpism, the low hanging fruit is to refuse to use the phrase or acknowledge its legitimacy in its current form.
