I think there's a difference, and I think it largely stems from FOX's near
total dominance in the RW echo chamber. My best example may open an old wound, which you and I argued about - C-Ville. I don't mean to re-litigate that.
But that Saturday really shook me, and I sat in my living room glued to my TV like people did for weeks after 911. On my service, Fox cable news and CNN are right next to each other, and I kept switching back and forth to see the contrast. And let me tell you, it was stark. In their ad hoc panel discussions, CNN always had at least one right winger. Particularly after Trump spoke and raised the ire of a lot of us, there was always at least one Trump defender. Fox showed one point of view in every panel discussion I saw. Most importantly, when the Mall tragedy occurred, as soon as the videos were released showing it as no accident, CNN called it what it was - a purposeful act. It must've taken FOX an hour to acknowledge that, and even after they themselves showed some of the most incriminating footage of the car, it took a while before the newscaster stopped calling it a possible accident.
This isn't because FOX is comprised of horrible people and CNN and CNBC are all wonderful humans. They are all pursuing a buck. It's because there is no single dominant force in the left wing chamber, and the competing outlets will happily call bullshit on each other and take market share. On the right, FOX almost completely owns the market, and their approach shows it. Their best money making strategy is to keep feeding the beast what it wants.
