Fair enough. Although if you are so inclined, you should take a gander at
this interview with James Clapper, although you may view him as too partisan. Ignore his view on the Russian impact on the election - he states unequivocally that Russia turned the election to Trump. That is a matter of opinion, although from a highly qualified guy. But not one without bias.
The part that should resonate - use of the word "spy" when what we mean to say is "informant". These things are completely different, and the use of the word "spy" is typical Trumpian inflammatory bullshit. There really is no accusation that the govt "spied" on the Trump campaign. The opening that the Trump camp decided they had was that an informant was apparently passing information along to FBI agents, perhaps prior to the initial meeting with the Aussie diplomat that allegedly really set everything in motion.
Personally, I think you are kidding yourself if you think you are any more objective on this than Matt. Matt is clearly anti-Trump. Honestly, I see you as assuming Trump is innocent (you should), but you apparently presume the FBI is guilty, pretty much based on nothing more than opportunistic political inflammatory attack dog tactics.
Cause to have the IG investigate? Ok, I can buy that. Enough to say "no doubt spying was going on?" There was an informant, not a spy. Assumption that the FBI was under the direction of an opposing political party? There is really no evidence that the FBI was under the direction of the WH on this or any other investigation - the Trump WH clearly believes it gets to exercise such direct control of the FBI, and in fact viewed its Attorney General like a mafia Consigliere - should have been looking out for Trump. Prior administrations, dem or repub, did not do those things. Instructing the FBI about what to investigate was always off limits. So when you say those things are clear, it raises the ante on the other concerns people are expressing in this thread, about normalization of Trumpian stuff that was anything but normal before. Like the WH directing investigations like that.
Until now. So investigate. But the presumptions you make in your second paragraph are evidence of anything but objectivity. [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 05/25/2018 2:14PM]
