Well, we can't have an impeachment just because we think it would be the
best teachable moment. We have to have an impeachable offense. So, we'll see where the Mueller investigation leads.
Personally, I think today is too different in the era of social media and the new propaganda opptys to derive the slightest comparability with 1973. I think a successful impeachment will be a disaster for the country (which isn't to say that is the right result if we see an impeachable offense - go where the facts lead). A large chunk of the country will always see it as a lie. Maybe larger than we think.
I think it would be nice to see the IG come back and say "nothing to see here", in a moment somewhat like Sessions had before his own former colleagues who were trying to get him to look into tapping Trump Tower for purely political purposes - he said in strong terms that "I can't just start investigating with no probable cause to create a political distraction". That was a teachable moment - in no small part because it exacerbated his deteriorating relationship with the Orange One. I'd like to see the IG come back with the same about this latest informant distraction. I presume they will.
But then, I presume nothing impeachable will be revealed about Trump. So, if that is right, we'll have to do the hard work at the ballot box, whatever the rapidly evolving challenges may be.
