Those 10,000 aren’t sparking the outcry. That situation isn’t new
Not that it isn’t a tough situation, but if they come unaccompanied, we have to figure out how best to handle it. That’s been a tough situation for a while, and will continue to be.
The kids who are now being separated weren’t unaccompanied. That’s the problem. We are creating the terrible situation in order to punish the parents and deter future people from coming here with kids.
So in addition to taking the kids from their parents, there is also a chance we could lose track of the kids so their parents can’t reunite with them. There is no good reason for that.
