I mean, there's a fairly long list of govt agencies that are effective.

The military seems to have gotten the job done over the last 230 years or so. As much as we complain about DMVs, they get the job done too, and are less unpleasant to visit than when I was a kid. Flying is still the safest way to travel, and they almost always get the job done when investigating tragedies, so I'll throw the FAA in for good measure.

Govt agencies are rarely accused of being efficient. But then that's a problem shared by all big bureaucracies. Large corporations offer many of the same adventures for consumers that govts do. Doesn't mean one can't be for small govt. but the party of small govt tends to demonize big govt more than making philosophical arguments about limiting govt.

Some try to normalize this by saying "well, this immigration thing is a downright cruel example of govt ineffectiveness, but that's govt for you." No it isn't. This is a question of policy, not general statements about govt ineffectiveness.
