I thought there was a time limit too

My guess is that the audit was done within the time limit, but with my son's frequent moves and low-end jobs (debt collector for Helig Meyers, bike messenger, etc) befitting his BA in English, the audit letters didn't catch up with him. Thanks to his going back to school and getting into a paying profession, he can't hide now.

A comment on the IRS budget. The IRS is entrusted with collecting taxes for the US government. Before recent reduction in their budget from $14 to $12 B, the $14 B would have been 0.47% of the $3 trillion collected last year. I agree with the articles concern that we might become an Italy or Greece with our tax collections. (Our non-compliance rate of 20% would be $600 B, so not paying an few more $billion for better compliance seems foolish.)
