"all taxation is evil" comes from. I don't think I've EVER expressed any idea that could be remotely construed as thinking all taxation is evil. I think we should audit MORE high income tax payers. There are 400K tax payers with income over $1m representing 25% of individual income tax collected. With EXISTING budgets and EXISTING resource prioritization by the IRS, the IRS was able to conduct 1 million audits. Hell, audit HALF the 400K tax payers and then use the remaining 800K audits for everyone else. I'm also fine providing more funding to the IRS if we think it's truly necessary. But even without funding, the IRS should be able to more intelligently target their audits for maximum revenue benefit.

There's the old question "why do people rob banks...?", A:"Because that's where the money is". The IRS should be pragmatic and focus their audits where the money is. An the biggest bang for the buck is with the higher earners. If they're wasting time auditing sub-$50K earners to the detriment of their ability to appropriately target high earners, that's sounds like a bad allocation of audit resources that should be able to be corrected by IRS leadership.
