Honestly, I don't know how many of us can claim to be completely free

of bigotry. I'd say I am less of a bigot than I once was (in my youth, I used the n-word, and I considered homophobia to the norm, perfectly acceptable, and almost expected of a young heterosexual man). But I wouldn't claim not to have more growing to do.

I gotta tell ya, I don't agree that it has ever been universally accepted in the US that "one American despite ethnic or national descent was considered just as worthy of the name as any other". I think Trump gives a voice to that sentiment, which never had it before in such a mainstream way. It would have gone without saying in the halls of Congress that Trump's statement over the weekend was a racist trope. Now, there is a segment of the population that never considered this racism, but more like White Grievance, and now is willing to say that openly. That's where this love of political incorrectness comes from.

Trump IMO is a symptom of it, and now, an enabler. Getting rid of him won't end this - there are deep insecurities about rapid changes in society all over the world. The insecure, insular, fearful nationalists can't stop the future, or even forestall it, but that's what they are trying to do - the true Resistors, if you will. But resistance is futile.

As long as we don't blow ourselves to smitherines first. That's why I say get rid of nationalism wherever and whenever you can ASAP. And be wary of the bigotry that seeps into the left's extreme too - I agree with all dems screaming bloody murder about AOC's Chief of Staff. In a position of power that guy could be as dangerous as Trump.

Years from now there will be some really interesting stuff written about this moment in world history. As long as we don't blow ourselves up first.
