Agree that immigration system should change. We shoul have a system based
On logic but also compassion. We should start by asking how many people we need for economic reasons and give visas to people that fit those needs based on education (and certainly not to mean only the well educated), work experience, age, etc.
In my opionion we should apportion those to various regions. Yes to Latin America but also western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.
YES we should be welcoming to refugees. We should be taking many more people from the Middle East.
I also think that if you apply and don't get called then sorry, but you can't come here. If you do anyway then you shoul be sent back. My agreeing to grant legal status to those already here is really a political compromise and would not carry on to the future.
On single payer, you are really only talking about who pays the bills, not about cost. How can you expect a private company that pays corporate income taxes, property taxes, etc to compete against a government agency that does not? Also when we hear about how efficient Medicare is, is that a fully burdened cost that includes cost of buildings and maitenance? Utilities? IT support? Janitors? Etc etc etc I would like to see a true, all inclusive comparison.
That said, there needs to be major changes to the provider and insurance markets.
Also agree that the right is just plain batshit crazy
Edited to add: I would have done a major tax reform, but basically to delete deductions and lower rates to keep it revenue neutral. I would do away with any mechanism that makes it possible to transfer wealth between generations without paying taxes. You die and unless your estate goes to your spouse you cash in your chips, figure out net gain and pay taxes on it.
