If Bern were to become president, I'll be more than happy to see repub
control of both houses. In a contest between two extreme populists, my dream outcome would be Congress controlled by the party not in the WH, no matter what.
Bern's party affiliation has nothing to do with it IMO. I think his self-branded socialism is the reason you're right. All those moderate seats flipped back to dems in '18 - I think it likely that most or all flip back to the repubs with a self described socialist at the top of the ticket.
And worst of all, I think that happens because voters in those districts fear socialist plus dem congress much more than they do Trump plus repub congress. And unless the economy shits the bed very soon, my bet would be Trump plus restored repub majorities in Congress - both chambers.
In the same year the dems in the House impeached Trump. Oy. This scenario would be an epic victory for populist nationalism. Man it's hard counting on the dems in a foxhole. Their heads really are up their asses when it comes to strategy and tactics. Let's impeach Trump with no chance of senate removal, raising the stakes enormously on the election, and then just to add to the excitement, let's nominate a lifelong socialist with a history of admiration for the CCCP and the Sandinistas to run in November.
Hey, who really wants to govern anyway? If my worst case happens, we'll have lots of chances to wag our fingers in righteous indignation. Most dems seem to prefer that!
