I was thinking maybe the cases of brutality especially with veteran
cops has more to do with an almost apathetic feeling towards people they arrest. I couldn’t imagine being a cop for 10 plus years, dealing with some of the worst of the worst, having to see some of the things people do to each other and not becoming numb to it. Similar, but not exactly like soldiers in combat. Mental fatigue one would think has to play a part or maybe I’m just being naive.
My grandpa was a Marine in the Pacific during WWII, island hopping. He told me once that to be able to survive they had to dehumanize the Japanese. He said they would stack up the dead Japanese and use them for tables and “sandbags”.
Don’t get me wrong, the cop from the video has no defense for continuing the punishment he was giving and imo it looked like the guy was struggling because he couldn’t breath, not because he was resisting.
