I think it’s somewhat refreshing to see a guy take criticism in stride.
That’s not exactly the response we see modeled these days.
I doubt a very large % of the left is trying to eat Miranda. We’re in very unsettling times for all the obvious reasons. Hysterical voices drown everything else out. I think we probably are in the midst of one of the most intense reckonings in our history with racial issues. Some people believe that we have to disown everything about historical figures with racist, or sexist, or whatever-ist, sins. That’s a rather extreme approach, but also a reaction to generations of burying those sins.
I think it feels to most of us like we lurched from failing to even acknowledge these sins to full on cancellation of anyone who committed them. Which in times like 1790, most wealthy or accomplished white folks probably did. Even the libs of the time.
Miranda is just acknowledging that he was so focused on the things he admired about Hamilton that he failed to include anything about racial stuff he’d condemn. Not the end of the world. I think “Hamilton” will probably benefit from his reasonable reaction.
