No, that’s no answer. That’s a dismissal.

People today don’t think the country can get to true equality for women and minorities if it continues to lionize historical figures who did racist and misogynist things. Some of these people think we have to stop honoring anything about these historical icons.

This is what we’re struggling with. “Shut up and leave our icons alone” doesn’t look like it’s going to fly anymore. “Shut up and watch while we tear down all your icons no matter what you think” isn’t going to fly either. Both are a little short on compromise, or just listening.

That’s what’s so refreshing about Miranda’s reaction. He listened to the criticism, didn’t lose his mind, and said “ok, I see your point”.
