“The cities are falling apart”. That is a case in point.

That is sheer hysteria, Hilton. Even Chicago and NYC couldn’t be any further from falling apart. There is no urban Marxist invasion going on. If you walked around NYC today, say down by Grand Central, all you’d notice is how quiet it is compared with past July visits.

The neighborhoods with the highest gun violence rates before last month have higher gun violence rates now. Pretty significantly. Lots of personal tragedies going on. Probably resulting from several factors, including being locked down for months. But also a sense that the authorities - “the man” - is diminished right now. That privileged white (or blue) bastard is under fire. The fireworks thing has been kind of surreal too.

These are unsettled times. But our cities are nowhere near falling apart. That’s a hysteria-infused re-election strategy from the far right currently in control of the repub party.
