Russ Hulse in 1976 (1993 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the Hulse-Taylor binary pulsar) before he left to work on Tokamak. Also worked with Rob Wilson of (Arno) Penzias & Wilson fame, 1978 (shared) Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the residual 3 degree cosmic microwave background radiation from the Big Bang (that they initially thought might have been from pigeon shit buildup in their Bell Labs horn antenna). Rob was the personable one.
Also Charles Townes, 1964 (shared) Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention of the maser (also developed the use of masers and lasers for astronomy). That was special for me because I was big into lasers in high school, even building them, at least trying to using neon sign transformers and blowing glass laser tubes, but he wasn't very personable. Oh, well. And then there was meeting and spending a lot of time with Clyde Tombaugh, the dedicated plate-blinker who discovered Pluto, when he visited the VLA. All in all, I got to rub elbows with a lot of world class scientists while also getting to do science and getting published with some of them, too, even though I largely just slaved in the "bit mines". But then that made me a very useful/valuable asset to a lot of them, too.
