WSJ - Coming Republican Civil War.
Basically, is the Republican Party a pure cult of an individual, where membership is constantly tested through loyalty to a person, not a country (or even a party or political philosophy), or does it have any principles at all?
I don’t know if we’ll know until we see the next 2 elections play out. Will Trump be in a position to run again in ‘24? Are we going to see challenges against people like Rubio? I’ll be interested in outcomes of races like Ivanka vs L’il Marco or Noem vs Thune, if they happen.
Talk about being doomed to live in interesting times. As if the pandemic wasn’t enough. We actually require reminders from 100s of prominent current and former leaders, in politics, business, and life, that it is the people of the USA, not the whims of Congress (I think that was Paul Ryan’s line - that lefty nutjob), who determine the presidency. And millions of my fellow Americans aren’t even hearing the reminder (distressing enough that they need one in the first place).
In the end, Wednesday is looking like a Pence loyalty test. If he does his Constitutional duty for the USA, he will be failing, and will become an enemy of, Trumpistan.
Holy shit is all I can think of to say about all this.
