these "platform" companies have been making "platform" arguments for years - you are right. That said, they're not platform companies, they 're media companies. They aggregate audiences by providing content (information) and sell the eyeballs to advertisers. Why on earth would the not be allowed to provide editorial filters? There are many media companies that have decided that they won't become platforms for disinformation campaigns (look at any lamestream outfit).
Honestly, I am not sure how those that have been enablers in the last week's events (or other events leading to slander or violence) are not legally liable. I think we'll see a few people win lawsuits in the coming weeks and months.
Time to clean things up. I think we are at the "fire in a crowded theater" moment - but maybe that's because I'm a sucker for our democratic processes.
