There is some truth to that...

Trump had some populist tendencies on the spending side, for sure, which I don't like. Ditto for some of his corporatism, although his pales in comparison to the actual socialists, as we'll see in the coming years.

With that said, you have to get elected to be able to do anything, and a budget hawk cannot get elected in this day and age. There is simply no appetite for spending control in the populace or the government on either side of the aisle. It's all grift, all the time. It will probably be the end of us.
