Voters don’t generally give all that much of a shit about growing debt and deficits, except when they think they can use it against the other side so they can take back control and increase the debt and deficit themselves.

But certain voters with ties to ruined socialist countries hear members of a party self-brand as socialists, and they will never hear anything else. They just know they’d never vote for that party. But it’s entirely about the label, not any of their actual policies.
