Like you, I'm finding today's messaging to be mind boggling.
Manchin (and Sinema) are pretty clear they were already having concerns over the scaled down BBB bill, and yesterday didn't make that any better. Manchin too said he's quite surprised by today's move to double down.
House moderates like Spanberger, Lauria, etc. have to be chitting bricks at the thought of putting their name to such Woke porkulus after yesterday.
The Squad (and Bernie) remain pretty steadfast about no BBB, no infrastructure. And it doesn't take many to kill something in the House, and only 1 in the Sen.
And now you even have the NJ guy in the House (and others I think) saying no SALT return, no deal. Not the best move when you're trying to sell this as a bill where the "rich" will "pay their fair share". (and Bernie understandably saying that's a deal killer for him)
Dysfunctional may be a kind description.
