LOLZ! In fairness to both him and me, though, I'm not...
...trying to reason him out of anything. I'm just curious how deep this NeverTrumper feeling goes. I was surprised he said he'd still have voted McAuliffe, but fair enough. For my own part, there are a number of R politicians whom I don't like, but I vote based on policy, so I'd still vote for them over an alternative who would implement contrary policy to my interests. Trump wasn't even particularly attractive to me in 2016, but it was a no-brainer for me to vote for him over Hillary Clinton.
As someone who views Hillary Clinton as the political anti-Christ, I can understand disdain for a politician that overwhelms a lot of other considerations. Fortunately, I wasn't faced with the choice of having to vote against my policy preferences in order to oppose her.
