Well, the original control groups only have a few months' head start

on the remaining billions of doses given, so maintaining the placebo/control groups wouldn't have solved your complaint about "long-term."

And yes, the trials inadequately tested against variants that didn't exist yet. How fucking dare they run a trial without testing variants that didn't even exist! And how dare the drug companies and the government not tell people how the vaccines would work against variants that didn't even exit yet!
(Again, I'm so done with the stupidity.)

The vaccines were effective at significantly limiting spread of the original variant, and while it's unfortunate they're not as strongly effective controlling the spread of newer variants, thank goodness they do take care of the most important part which is limiting hospitalizations and deaths.
