What's this?

I saw this on another message board but I think it sums up the problem:

"I really want to respond with “Oh, that’s horrible! I’m glad the cops caught the guy and I hope he goes to jail for a nice long time!” Because this is 2017 and the world completely sucks, my actual response is “progressives have to be prepared to fight back like the ammosexuals if this guy claims to be a progressive and shout that we should not be blamed for this. They have made us worse people than we should be, but we must actually live down to their level."

I don't know how we get out of this loop.
