What were the circumstances around that traffic stop. If he was stopping a suspected bank robber, then I might understand the officer's actions a little more. But for a routine traffic stop, the default assumption cannot be that the driver is going to open fire on me and I need to take him down based on any sudden movement. And if that is the default assumption, then we need to stop routine traffic stops.
Yes, the driver made a really bad mistake by getting out of the car, but cops these types of shootings just seem to be total nervous nellies that panic and open fire at the slightest thing.
