I think it would be more valid to compare it with the secrecy

Surrounding Hillarycare during the Clinton Admin.

In the case of Ocare, there were lots of hearings. Problem with that one was with all the pushback coming from repubs, the dems ultimately abandoned any effort to bring their ideas in, reasoning they had the votes just with the dems if they could get the likes of Kucinich on board.

As I recall, repubs found that approach objectionable. And with all of Ocare's problems, it hardly seems wise to try to emulate that approach. Yet the repubs seem to be taking it several steps further by excluding the dems altogether from the start.

Is "oh yeah? You guys did it first!" really a valid defense? Are we that committed to making sure our political partisanship remains at a third grade level?

Sometimes a tragedy like the repub baseball shooting shocks us to our senses. This thread suggests we simply no longer have adult senses to get back to.
