I doubt that the splits in the republican party can be bridged, so ultimately, I think the status quo prevails... limping along with more markets collapsing. Eventually anger will boil over to the point that the two parties will be forced to work together. Either that or it's scorched earth time for incumbents of all stripes.

I have a sneaking suspicion that democrats are quite pleased with the current situation heading into 2018. Much like the collusion investigation, none want it to conclude. Far better to keep it around as something to campaign on. I think they're miscalculating on the failure of health care reform falling squarely on republicans, however.
