yes- the Democrats managed to expand coverage... but we're seeing some of the fallout now. Insurers opting out of the system, premiums rising, etc. there has been good, but there has also been plenty of bad.

what we need are leaders that will look at affordability differently- as in a system our country can afford. The system accounts for 16% of GDP (and growing) - that's not affordable (its actually a bit of an albatross, though some of the $$$ clearly gets recirculated). 2 things that are easy to do: (1) say that everyone will have access to basic healthcare and (2) say that a plan with come with a tax cut. 1 thing that is a little harder- really take to task entrenched economic interests and special interest groups. we're not going to get anywhere until we accept the tougher task.

again, if we can change the trajectory or really find a way to manage cost, universal coverage becomes a much easier conversation.
