That is one of the many lines of battle
against this product. Much too long a history to really get into every angle and 100% part of the problem is that although the negative claims are demonstrably false and this fish is being shipped to 80+ countries around the world including some of the most discerning eyes possible, there has not been a sustained, proper effort to effectively counter the negative rhetoric. In this issue (or life in general I would argue), perception becomes fairly entrenched reality regardless of how false the claims if not enough work is done to always counter the negative rhetoric. If the fish was anywhere close to the spectrum of problems as claimed by the worst of these sites, there is not a country in the world who would allow its import -- including this one a long time ago. I will be the first to admit that it is at least partly due to the never-ending drumbeat of this kind of rhetoric that the landscape is then created that allows ugly government trade battles and action to then succeed. That is the reality of divisive politics. However, I will never accept as an excuse that the government should essentially endorse this stance as (most) do sincerely know better. There have been a few in Congress to strongly stand up and call out the few politicians who are driving the worst of things. However, far more have chosen to sit on the sidelines and allow the worst to happen here because they are scared to ever stand up publicly for anything that remotely looks like they are "favoring" something on trade these days.
