That was during the "wild west" days of the internet. It was slow and


almost nobody used it and there wasn't really any competition. Businesses were not widely on the internet. People like Bill Gates thought it was a fad. I don't think it is a relevant analogy any more than how stone-cutters guilds were relevant during the industrial revolution. It's funny, speaking of old-fashioned, that Mike Pence still has an AOL account. :D

AOL did, however, have a UVA football and basketball message board. I was online with my modem. :)
