Apples and oranges. We are talking here about a


massive overall societal transition. There really is no specific goal, except "boy I hope our economy doesn't completely collapse". Back then, it was a very specific goal, driven by fear in the end, to put a man on the moon by a date - end of decade. Govt has something specific to spend money on. Like paying more in taxes to build a military after Pearl.

There is no govt spending solution to our fears about an uncertain future. No specific thing to achieve by a date. It's really just a "oh boy, I don't know what's going to happen, and I'm scared".
