Some are expecting dems to run on "impeach Trump"
next year. I think dems should be careful about making that too prominent a part of their platform, depending on what comes out over the next year I guess. But the lesson of 2016 for those who want to end this current American populist iteration is to not count on pure negative messaging on the campaign trail. Along with "don't nominate the worst candidate in American history when facing off against someone who should be unelectable. You might make him electable".
Americans need to get back to the assumption that when a pres or a governor is elected, it's for a full term. Recall votes, impeachment - these are designed to be extraordinary measures that are used almost never. Since Clinton in the '90s you hear about impeachment with every administration. And recall votes are attempted way more often than they should be. These things are not designed to save the opposition from results of elections.
Most Americans barely knew how to spell the word impeachment before 1997. We should get back to that.
