It's a mindset thing. I am not contending that a president who
colluded with Russia should not be impeached. I am suggesting that the presumption is that he did not. And evidence would need to overcome that presumption. The mindset IMO since 1997 has been "we lost - how can we impeach?". And that's the wrong mindset.
Look at your own characterization of the ramifications of a dem house recapture next year - you look at it entirely in terms of impeaching Trump. It would be worse for the prospect of impeaching, because of how it would look politically. I know several dems with that mindset - Mueller isn't an investigator in search of truth; he is a knight riding in on a white horse to save them from Trump.
The benefit of retaking the house has nothing to do with impeachment - for a dem in particular, it would block Trump's attempts to implement his agenda - this tax bill would not be passing if dems controlled the House.
Impeachment is an absolute last resort, but it has moved in the American psyche up to the point where sometimes opposition talks like it's a first resort, to be pursued right after you lose. IMO anyway.
