I totally disagree. O and W were not impeached not for lack
of desire by their opponents in this highly polarized environment we've now been in for decades. It was because both of their admins were basically scandal free, particularly compared with Reagan in the 80s (which did not leave HW unscathed), Clinton, and now of course Trump.
High Crime or misdemeanor should be a very, very high bar to meet. It is not the sort of thing to be hunted for. Before Trump stepped on his own dick by firing Comey, the biggest disappointment to many dems (aside from Nunes' obstruction tactics at the House level) was that the most public investigations in the Senate and House were meant really to be counter-intel. They were meant to get to the bottom of Russian interference, not to be criminal investigations.
Presidents who are not impeached can be held accountable, criminally or otherwise. Trump could finish an 8 year term and still face lawsuits over harassment from some or all of his accusers.
And if it can be shown that he actually colluded with the Russians, then by all mean, I think even a repub congress is likely to impeach and convict. And probably only his most rabid fans stay with him. And that's as it should be.
The odds of that being shown IMO are almost 0. Impeachment - the incredibly serious step of overturning a US election, should happen just about never. It needs to be "devalued" in the minds of many people. [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 12/04/2017 3:13PM]
