I may regret this, but can anyone help me understand the Russia kerfluffle?
To be quite honest, most of the information I've seen on the topic is nothing more than partisan bickering and finger pointing, so I tune it out. But before I draw any conclusions, I'd like to know what is actually going on.
Here is what I think I know:
Some Russians, 13 of them I think, but no one directly associated with the Russian government, attempted to tamper with the last presidential election.
On election day, there were some irregularities with the voting machines in one district in NC. But experts don't think that had anything to do with the Russians, nor would changing every vote in that district to Hillary have changed the outcome of the election.
Other than that, the only real evidence of direct tampering is a flood of information on Facebook either supporting Trump or criticizing Hillary.
So far, there is no evidence Trump attempted to coordinate the tampering efforts with the Russians. But the investigation is ongoing and there is at least one suspicious meeting between Trump and some Russians back before the election.
Assuming I am anywhere close to correct in understanding the situation, all we really have at this point is some Russians flooding Facebook with misinformation.
Is that right, or am I missing a lot?
