I don't know of evidence that the Russians successfully hacked voting
Machines. I think there is a suspicion that they attempted to hack voting machines on Election Day, but I'm not aware of any proof. I don't think there is even suspicion that the vote count in the last pres election was fraudulent. Trump won the election.
There is apparently a lot of evidence that the Russians used social media to impact the campaign itself. There is evidence that Russian groups were responsible for hacking the DNC and providing the infamous results to wikileaks. Of impersonating news organizations in creating and promoting false news, like the pizzaria child slavety ring directed by the Clintons, to try to promote Trump. And that they promoted similar efforts to promote Brexit, and populist candidates throughout Europe over the last several years.
The real concern is how Russia or others with motive to undermine elections in liberal democracies are doing that and exacerbating partisan divisions by exploiting the reliance on social media as primary news sources when social media is in its infancy.
The problem is that it has become completely politicized as a way to impeach Trump. If you ask me, both Trumpies and anti Trumpies are complicit in that, when the real concern should completely transcend Trump's presidency. Anti Trumpies should stop relying on Mueller to save them from Trump. They should commit themselves to defeating Trump at the ballot box.
And Trumpies should stop just trying to defend Trump at the expense of a thorough investigation. There are much bigger issues to be considered. Democracy becomes a joke if hackers can make gullible Twitter or Instagram users believe anything on their feed, and in this rapidly evolving interconnected world, everyone should be saying "woe, wait a second."
From what I hear, there is a lot of detail in these indictments today. Wire fraud, other allegations that point to a concerted, planned out attempt to discredit journalism, the legal system, all the bear bones checks and balances that the founders of our republic thought we could rely on. IMO, taking this lightly is simply taking for granted the struggle that led to the USA at a time when persecution was the norm, and the 13 colonies were the escape.
It shouldn't be about Trump, for those who love him, hate him, or don't care about him.
