Legislators at various levels can certainly act in a constitutionally permissible way to help prevent or limit these tragic events: domestic violence and mental health blocks on sales and even temporary or permanent confiscation of weapons, limits on clip capacity, outlawing armor-piercing bullets, requiring background checks and/or safety classes for concealed-carry permits, waiting periods for all firearms, background checks for all firearm sales including private sales, outlawing bumpstocks and similar devices, heck, taxing firearm and ammunition sales - lots of things.

What ideas do you have to try to limit or prevent these horrible events?

I'm a gun owner. When I was a kid, the NRA was an organization that promoted gun safety and responsible ownership. Nobody had military-derived weapons in their homes. The NRA of today is an extremist organization taking extremist positions that in my view would be unrecognizable by ANY of the Founding Fathers, and probably even unrecognizable by any legislator at any level from the founding of our country all the way through the mid-1960s. Sure the NRA still gives gun safety classes, and their leaders probably like babies and puppies, too, but that doesn't change what the organization has become. So, I think seeing the actual effects of bullets - meaning the bullet-ridden bodies of these children in this case - would be a good thing for every legislator, not just those backed by the NRA. Maybe not including everybody was the stupid part?
