I have long since felt that the lowest hanging fruit in addressing the yawning wealth gap that continues to open it's mouth wider is to implement a flat tax, no deductions, even with an income exclusion up front to preserve progressive rates at the lowest end of the income scale.

And I completely disagree that Ocare was about "buying" votes. Chavez literally bought votes in Venezuela. Obama came much closer to pissing everybody off on both sides of the aisle. He stomped on Kucinich, who spoke for those with the Warren/Sanders plan back then. He excluded the repubs from the process altogether after a brief period of at least lip service to bipartisanship. Ultimately, he got the dems on board with a classic compromise between far and center left, which almost all dems tolerated but nobody loved.

And for his efforts, he received the Tea Party and a minority in the House in return.
