The short summary makes it all look so simple. It wasn't.
Son had just started to school when his mother died from cancer. I remarried a year later much to the children's displeasure so it was difficult beyond comprehension
They had a beautiful, wonderful mother, who rose to martyr status upon dying. How could I remarry a mere mortal after that--not to mention be out of my mind in love with her (as I am.my current wife is my childhood heartthrob and I hers. I was not nearly good enough for her family and they broke us apart). So.the complications were real and valid from both sides.
The boy was too young to leave and too old to have to indulge.
We are all fine, but there are still aches that will never go away. I often think of the very old Dylan lyric. "All they things I'm a-sayin,' you can say them just as good. And your're right from your side, and I'm right from mine.." Somethings in life just call for tolerance and forebearance and they're best turned over to Those in the much higher paygrade.
